Mrs. Shirley Jean Albertson Johnson, 65, died Monday, February 2, at Scotland Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, 13000 Blues Farm Road, with a visitation to follow at the church. The Rev. Dr. Tom Dendy will officiate. A memorial service will be held in High Point, NC, on Sunday, February 8 at 3:30 pm at Springfield Friends Meeting, 555 East Springfield Road, with a graveside committal to follow in the church cemetery. Ray Luther, Minister of the Springfield Friends meeting will officiate.
She is survived her brother, Bill Albertson of Laurinburg, NC; one sister, Edna Kluska of Shanahon, IL: two half-brothers, Edward Albertson, Jr. of Woodriver, IL and Jack Porter of Denver, CO.
Born May 27, 1938 in Ottawa, IL, she was also a daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth Albertson. She was reared by her paternal grandmother and three aunts in Highpoint, NC. She was married to William C. Johnson who predeceased her. Both Shirley and her husband taught at Trinity High School and worked as realtors. Shirley was a member of the Springfield Friends Meeting in Highpoint, where she was active in the Mission Circle. In 2001, Shirley moved to Laurinburg to be with her longtime friend and travel companion, Fran Asher. She joined the Trinity Presbyterian Church of Laurinburg and was active in the Mary Melton Circle and taught High school Sunday School Class. Shirley supported the important work of the Scotland County Humane Society. She was an avid reader, cook, and lover of pets and wildlife. Shirley was an eternal optimist who loved God, loved people, and loved life!
