Shelby Jean Woodard

Shelby Jean Woodard, age 77, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at her home in Laurinburg, NC.

A funeral service will be held at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service and Crematorium Chapel on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. David Kee and Rev. Brian Locklear. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Burial will follow at the Clark Family Cemetery.

Born December 19, 1945, in Robeson County, she was a daughter of the late Roy W. and Winnie Bell Oxendine Chavis. Shelby worked as a laborer in the textile industry. She loved gardening, in which she had a green thumb, spending time with her family and loving pet Rocky. Her fondest memory was the day she was baptized, and her greatest inspirations were her parents.

She is survived by her children; Jessie Clark (Shelley) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Audrey Chavis (Chris) of Maxton, Pamela Thompson (Steve) of Columbia, TN., Kevin Clark of Laurinburg; brothers, Ashley Chavis, Roger Chavis, and Charles Chavis; sisters, Shirley Kee (Jimmy), Fannie Brewer (Daryl), Lavon Player, and Dorothy Thompson; fifteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Woodard; son, Freddy Clark; brothers, Paul Chavis, Sr. (Doc), William “Buster” Robert Chavis, Roy W. Chavis, Jr., James Chavis (Silva), George Chavis, Howard Chavis and sister, Katherine Butler.
