Sharon Chavis Brigman's Obituary

Sharon Chavis Brigman, affectionately known as “Pam” to her family, 80, of Laurinburg, NC went home to sing forevermore in the heavenly choir on April 5th, 2026, after a very courageous battle with cancer.

Sharon was the beloved daughter of the late Robert Wilson Locklear and Betty Mae Chavis, born in Laurinburg September 20, 1945. She was a member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church. She spent many years working in the textile and insurance industry.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Alex Jennings Brigman, Son, Patrick Alton Cooper, Sister-in-law, Martha Frances Locklear, Aunt, Louise McKay Locklear and Great-niece, Morgan Faith Locklear.

She and her late husband were members of a motorcycle club for years and traveled extensively, riding in one event to California and back to NC. She loved attending church and being a member of the choir. She had a great love for singing and hearing others sing all genres of gospel music, among her favorites were Ivan Parker, The Gaither’s, Casting Crowns, and Hoppers. She was an avid gospel concert attendant.

She was well known for her love of cooking and baking cakes. Her cakes were “famous” at weddings, birthdays, holidays and all church events. The love she poured into her baking touched many lives and she will be greatly missed. She also enjoyed hosting large holiday dinners for family and friends with lots of great homemade southern food. Surely, heaven will be a little sweeter with her there.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, brother, James Leonard Locklear of Laurinburg. Nieces, Connie Locklear Logelin (Roger) of Raleigh, Pamela Locklear McGirt (Elton) and Aneissa Locklear of Laurinburg. Daughter in law, Melissa Cooper of Laurel Hill. Beloved cousins, Mae Locklear, Delton Locklear (Shelia) and Michael Locklear (Monica) of Rockingham. Special friends, Angie Brooks Lewis of Laurinburg, and Clarence and Peggy High of Laurel Hill, as well as a host of many other special friends, beloved great nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will take place Saturday, April 11th at Laurel Hill Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Don Malpass. Visitation 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, memorial service begins at 3:00 pm.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be sent to Scotland County Regional Hospice, PO Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
