Samuel George "Sam" Rizk, 90, died Saturday, August 9 at Scotland Memorial Hospital.
A Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Martin Evans Rizk; his sons, Sam Rizk, Jr. of Laurinburg, Jack Rizk of Lexington, and Jim Rizk of Austin, TX; his daughter, Cathy Griner of Charlotte; his step-son, John Evans of New Bern; his sisters, Lorice Rizk of Laurinburg and Patricia Rizk of Lexington; his granddaughters, Mae, Chloe, Samantha, Madeline, Laura, Emily, and Marie; his step-granddaughter, Corie, and great granddaughter, Cara.
A native of Scotland County, Sam was a graduate of Notre Dame University and did graduate studies at Georgetown University. He worked in sales before returning to Laurinburg to work with his father in the operations of Rizk Department Store which was founded in 1922. He continued to operate until his retirement in 2005. Sam was also a long-time active member of the Laurinburg Lions Club.
