Samuel Furman "Sam" Covington

Mr. Samuel Furman "Sam" Covington, 80 of Rockingham Road died Monday, October 15 at Scotland Memorial Hospital.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Presbyterian Church in the Pines officiated by Dr. Glenn Harris.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joyce Benoist Covington; four daughters, Deborah Chavis and husband, Ellis of Laurinburg, Cynthia Fournier and husband, Wayne of Laurinburg, Wendy Moore and partner, Robert Mack of Southern Pines, Elizabeth Covington of Laurel Hill; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Born November 2, 1926 in Richmond County, he was a son of the late Samuel F. and Elodie Gibson Covington. Sam was a graduate of the University of NC, Chapel Hill and served with the US Navy in WWII. He served as principal of several schools in Richmond County and retired from the Scotland County School System. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #28.

Visitation will follow the memorial service in the church fellowship hall.
