Mrs. Sallie Rich McDonald, 94, of Purcell Street died Friday, August 17, at the residence of her daughter, Catherine McLean.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Unionville Missionary Baptist Church officiated by the Revs. Alford Dudley, William Moore and George T. Ellis. Deacon Lewis McDonald, Deacon Hyder Massey, and Beacham McDougald will deliver personal remarks. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
Born June 7, 1907 in Scotland County, she was a daughter of the late Alonzo and Julia Diggs Rich and widow of the late Grady McDonald. She received her education from Laurinburg Institute and was a faithful friend and confidant of the late Hewitt McDougald and his family for over 35 years. She was also a faithful member of Unionville Baptist Church for 63 years where she served as a deaconess, missionary, and was hailed as the eldest mother of the church.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Catherine McLean, Mrs. Dale Morgan and husband Eddie, Mrs. Gertrude Coney, and Mrs. Hattie Pegues all of Laurinburg; two sons, Mr. James McDonald and wife, Hattie, and Mr. Arthur McDonald and wife, Etta of Laurinburg; a sister-in-law, Vestine Rich of Parkton; 43 grandchildren, 91 great grandchildren, 46 great great grandchildren, four special great nieces and two special great nephews. She was predeceased by seven sons, Bizzell McDonald, John F. McDonald, Grady Cleve McDonald, John Henry McDonald, Leo McDonald, Wilbert McDonald, and Frank McDonald and a special brother, Houston "Coot" Rich.
