Mrs. Ruth McKinnon Morgan, 100, of Scotia Village Retirement Community died Tuesday, June 8, at Scotia Village.


Born in Laurinburg on July 18, 1898, she was the daughter of the late Calvin McKinnon and Ruth McIver McKinnon of Laurinburg. She attended Schools in Laurinburg and graduated from Flora Macdonald College in 1920, majoring in music and voice. On July 18, 1920 she married Eugene Arrowood Morgan of Laurel Hill, who died in 1955.


A talented singer with a beautiful soprano voice, Mrs. Morgan was much in demand as a singer at weddings and church services. For many years she served as choir director at the Presbyterian Church in the Pines in Laurel Hill and at the Laurinburg Presbyterian Church.


She is survived by two nieces and their husbands, Martha McKinnon Swearingen and Daniel Swearingen of Arlington, VA and Ann McKinnon Kitzmiller and Thomas Kitzmiller of Laurinburg; one nephew, James L. Morgan and his wife, Elizabeth Evans Morgan of Laurel Hill; five grandnieces, Kirsten Swearingen of Berkeley, CA, Ann Swearingen of Seattle, WA; Patricia Elise Morgan and her husband, Terry Wright of El Cerrito, CA; Kay Morgan and her husband, Jack "Skip" Anderson of Greensboro, and Susan Morgan and her husband, Charles Farrell of Laurel Hill; three grandnephews, Chris Kitzmiller and his wife, Terri of Garner, Jim Kitzmiller of Atlanta, and James L. Morgan, Jr. and his wife, Annette of Laurinburg; five great-grandnieces and five great-grandnephews.


Beloved by her family and friends, "Aunt Ruth" was like a grandmother to her grandnieces and grandnephews and their children. She will greatly missed by everyone.


Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 10, at the Presbyterian Church in the Pines in Laurel Hill. Burial will follow in the Morgan Cemetery.


Visitation with the family will be from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Argyll Room, Scotia Village.
