Ruth Carolyn Graham Adams met her precious Lord on September 20, 2024 at the age of 96.
A memorial service will be planned by the family for a future date.
She was born on March 9, 1928, in Tampa Florida, the daughter of Walter and Gussie Graham. Her husband, Leslie Keene Adams Jr. and two sisters, Mildred Penn and Mary Ann Fox preceded her in death and one sister, Joy Arnold survives. Ruth married Leslie Keene Adams on June 5, 1949. They were both natives of Lexington KY and attended The University of Kentucky where Ruth was a Home Economics major. After marriage, Ruth moved to several states with Les as he embarked on a career with General Electric.
Ruth’s Life was full of excitement as she raised and nurtured 4 children: Leslie Keene Adams III married to Pattie; Susan Adams Ames married to Gary; Stuart Thomas Adams married to Margarita; and David Alan Adams married to Penny, all who survive in various parts of the country.
Ruth’s life was also full of projects. She was an incredible cook, (Famous for her “Pinehurst muffins”), seamstress and needlepoint artist. During her early life she was busy with garden clubs, community events and hospital auxiliaries including being chairman of the Hamot Hospital’s Holiday Happenings. After her children were grown, she and Les moved to Broken Arrow, Ok. Ruth, along with two friends, embarked on a job working as insurance enrollers, a job which required them to travel all over the country. From “The Breakers” in Florida to the slaughterhouses of Chicago, she had many amazing and unusual experiences to share with her friends and family. Retirement took Ruth and Les to Pinehurst, NC where she enjoyed developing her golf game. She and Les had the privilege of working as volunteers at the 1999 U.S. Open. During this time, the couple made the decision to move to Scotia Village in Laurinburg, NC where they made many friends and enjoyed a busy social and service life that included a deaconship at First Baptist Church in Laurinburg.
In addition to her children and their spouses, Ruth is survived by seven grandchildren: Emily Ames Zadoretzky, David Ames, Graham Adams, Stephanie Adams, Lindsey Adams, Matthew Adams and Andrew Adams, as well as 6 great grandchildren: Emerson Adams, Annabel Adams, Walter Adams, Parker Ames, Kendrick McKnight and Ava Zadoretzky.
