Rosario Morales "Charito" Grady, 89, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 26, at 11:00 a.m. at Scotia Village. A visitation will follow the memorial service at Scotia Village.

She is survived by her sons, Frank T. Grady, Jr. (Jane) of Carolina Beach and Gary A. Grady (Joy) of White Lake; her daughters, Carolina Grady Caddell (Danny) of Laurinburg and Melinda Grady Gooden (Dan) of Southern Pines; her grandchildren, Scott Grady, John Paul Grady, McRae Grady, Robbie Caddell, Kristi Caddell Huddleson, Ann-Marie Parker, Ryan Grady, and Mary Jessup Gooden; her great grandchildren, Caleb Grady, Mia Rose Grady, Abi Grady, Charlie Caddell, Hannah Caddell, Landon Huddleson, and "on the way" Maggie Grey Parker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Honorable Judge Frank Telfair Grady, Sr. and her granddaughter, Julie McKinnon Caddell.

Born June 20, 1925 in Cayey, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Fernando Morales Vidal and Rosario Valles de Morales. She was a graduate of the Universidad de Puerto Rico and was awarded a full scholarship to obtain her Master's in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was a 20 year career educator for the Bladen County School System, teaching Chemistry, Spanish, and Home Economics. Upon Frank and Charito's marriage, they raised their family in Elizabethtown, NC, where together they made a life that was filled with wonderful friends and rewarding careers.

In retirement, she resided in Topsail Island, NC, along with her husband, Frank, to whom she was married to for 57 years. Frank and Charito were passionate about spending their retirement years fishing, crabbing, and sea shelling. They took great pride in sharing their beach home with their friends, family and especially their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A resident of Scotia Village for the last 14 years, she enjoyed playing bridge, and along with her friend, Bonnie Purcell, won the Gold Medal at the PHI Olympics Duplicate Bridge Tournament. Because of endearing friendships that she made, Scotia Village became a true home to Charito.

She was an adoring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and especially took great joy in cooking the traditional foods from her native Puerto Rico. It was important to her to impart this talent to her children by teaching them how to prepare such dishes as Arroz Con Pollo, Pastelillos, Sofrito, and Puerto Rican Rum Cake.

Memorials are requested for Laurinburg Presbyterian Church, 600 W. Church St., Laurinburg, NC 28352, Scotia Village Foundation, 2200 Elm Ave., Laurinburg, NC 28352, or Hospice, PO Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
