Ronny Garfield Dyer

Ronny Garfield Dyer, 74, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Atrium Health in Concord.

A funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 26, 2019 at West Montgomery High School Football Field, officiated by Dr. Harold Pope. Burial will follow at Uwharrie United Methodist Church Cemetery with Military Rites by Randolph County Honor Guard.

Born June 14, 1945 in Montgomery County, he was a son of the late Brantley Vanhoy and Mary Belle Dyer Davis. He was a SGT in the US Army and served one tour during the Vietnam conflict. He retired from the US Forest Service with 37 years of service. The last 22 of those years, he served as law enforcement for the US Forest Service. He was a courier for First Bank for 7 years and spent 12 years working security in the courtroom for the Montgomery County Sherriff’s Office. He was a member of West Montgomery Lions Club for 15 years and also served 25 years as a volunteer for the Uwharrie Volunteer Fire Department. Ronny spent 24 years pulling chain for West Montgomery High School Football. Ronny also loved to fish and play golf.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Betty Jean Saunders Dyer of the home; two sons, Rodney Dyer (Brooke Kinley) of Thomasville, and Brian Jay Dyer of Portland, OR; one daughter, Amity Renae Dyer and her fiancé, Matt Berrier of Lexington; one grandson, Ashton Hudson of Albemarle; one great grandson, Nathan Hudson of Albemarle; and his half-sister, Kim Callicutt (James) of Troy.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, December 23, 2019 at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service in Troy.
