Roney Cornelius Chappell

Roney Cornelius Chappell, 68, passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at FirstHealth Hospice in Pinehurst.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Mt. Gilead, officiated by Rev. Tony Hancox. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, face masks are recommended and please practice social distancing.

Born June 15, 1953 in Montgomery County, he was a son of the late Elisha Wiley and Dorothy Kiger Chappell. Roney was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and had been employed with McRae Industries for many years.

Roney is survived by his wife of 49 years, Judith Wright Chappell of the home; sons, Avery Chappell-Walkwitz (Daniel) of Madison, WI and Matthew Elisha Chappell of Troy; brothers, Rev. Ricky Chappell of Sanford and Jimmy Chappell (Barbara) of Candor; sister, Deloris Morse (Harold) of Mt. Gilead; and two grandchildren, Allanah Chappell and Emalynn Walkwitz. He is preceded in death by his brothers, William Thomas “Tommy” Chappell, Tony Chappell, and J.C. Chappell and his sister, Marie Mauldin.
