Capt. Roland Henry "Sonny" Medlin, Jr., 75, died Sunday, August 10, at Scotland Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel officiated by the Rev. Richard Tyson and Chief Robert Malloy. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Maxton.
He is survived by three daughters, Rhonda Morgan and husband, Rocky, of Laurel Hill, Barbara Nelson of Leesburg, FL, and Sonnie Kay Torrey and husband, Greg, of Beaufort, SC; two brothers, Ed Medlin of Yreka, CA and John Medlin of Boston, MA; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, James Edward Medlin and two brothers, James (Jimmy) Medlin and Angus (Buddy) Medlin.
Born January 22, 1928 in Philadelphia, PA, he was a son of the late Roland F. and Lillian Medlin. He graduated from Maxton High School and served in the Army National Guard from 1957-1959. For 20 years He was a member of the Laurinburg Police Department and for 15 years was a member of the Scotland County Sheriffa
