Roger Dale Thompson, 61, of US Hwy. 74 West died Friday, August 26, 2011 at his residence.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Monday at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel, Laurinburg. Burial with Military Rites will follow in Lumbee Memorial Gardens, Pembroke.
He is survived by his wife, Chestine Locklear Thompson; a daughter, Capujene Thompson of Lumberton; two sisters, Dunnie T. Williams and Olean Seals of Gibson; a sister-in-law, Betty Faye Hunt of Pembroke; three close friends and Vietnam comrades, Dwight Belky of Wilson, Sonny Bullard of Red Springs, and Milton Bartley of Camp Lejeune.
Born August 9, 1970 in Scotland County, he was a son of the late Ervin and Mildred Outlaw Thompson. He served two tours of duty with the US Marines in Vietnam, and later served with J. P. Stevens, Butler Manufacturing, and Campbell Soup. Roger's positive attitude was contagious, and he always carried it with him wherever he went.
Memorials may be made to St Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
