Laurinburg
Robert Eugene "Bob" Moore, age 79, passed away Wednesday, October 7, at Morrison Manor.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Drs. Wayne Wike and L. D. Kimrey and will be preceded by a sanctuary visitation at 10 a.m.
He is survived by his wife, Gay Hornbuckle Moore; his sons, Jeffrey Moore of Dayton, OH and Tim Moore of San Antonio, TX; his brothers, Frank Moore (Sybil) and Wilson Moore (Peggy) of Laurinburg.
Bob was born in Chesterfield County, SC on September 20, 1936 and spent 23 years of his career as a Tech. Sgt. in the US Air Force, serving in Illinois, Atlanta, Philippines, Fayetteville, Germany, Korea, Okinawa, and Alaska. In his retirement he enjoyed serving at Cypress Creek Golf Course and playing golf.
He also taught Sunday school in the fellowship hall of the First Baptist Church for over 10 years, and thoroughly enjoyed reading.
An interesting sidebar on his life: He needed a high school diploma to replace his lost 1954 Laurinburg High School diploma. His replacement arrived from the Scotland County Schools and he is listed as a 1954 graduate of Scotland High School since Laurinburg High School had closed. Scotland High School did not open until 1967.
Memorials are requested for the First Baptist Church, PO Box 883, Laurinburg, NC 28353 or Hospice, PO Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
