Obituary

Robert Earl Baxley, affectionately known as Earl, born on February 24, 1944, in Robeson County, passed away on July 15, 2026 at The Village of Brookwood in Burlington, North Carolina.

A private memorial service honoring the life of Earl Baxley will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Spring Hill Cemetery, located on Old Wire Road in Wagram, NC.

Earl’s early years were marked by a pursuit of education and personal growth. He graduated from Wagram High School in 1962, and then went on to earn his degree from the UNC Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy in 1967, setting the foundation for a distinguished career that would touch countless lives.

Following his graduation, Earl embarked on a remarkable professional journey as a pharmacist. He was a pharmacist from 1967 until his retirement in 2009, he owned and operated "The Medicine Shoppe" from 1984-2009 in Bladenboro, NC. Through his dedication and expertise, he became a trusted member of his community, providing care and advice to generations of customers and forming bonds of friendship and trust with those he served.

Outside of his professional work, Earl’s interests enriched his life and those around him. He found great joy in cooking and gardening, and he pursued genealogy and antiques with enthusiasm. Among his many talents was a special affinity for camellias; he learned the art of grafting, and his yard became adorned with beautiful specimens of this beloved flower—each a living testament to his patience and skill.

He is survived by his son, Robert Benjamin Baxley (Christy), and his grandson, Caleb Baxley, both of Gibsonville,

He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard Jack Baxley and Margaret Toole Baxley, as well as his brothers, Howard Kenneth Baxley and Roger Landis Baxley, his sister, Bobbie Carol Baxley, and his dear friend, Sarah Johnson Baxley.

Family, friendship, and a love of community were guiding forces throughout Robert's life. In his pharmacy or in his garden, he dedicated himself to the well-being and happiness of those around him. His influence endures in the lives he touched, through his professional service, passions, and the warmth he extended to family and friends.
