Rebecca Perkins Smith

Rebecca Perkins Smith, 87, of Laurinburg, passed away Monday, January 5, 2026 at her home.

A memorial service will be held at New Hope Baptist Church on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Nathan Black. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Born April 20, 1938, in Scotland County, she was the daughter of the late Belvin and Pearl Austin Perkins. Becky had been employed doing clerical work for St. Andrews College, Scotland County Mental Health, Scotland Memorial Hospital, and McLaurin-McArthur dealership. She taught piano from her home for over 20 years.

Becky began playing the piano in church at the age of 13. She played the piano and organ at Stewartsville Baptist Church from 1980-2010. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, where she played the piano and the organ from 2010-2020. She was active in both churches that she attended and especially loved her Sunday School class. Becky also was an avid North Carolina Tar Heel basketball fan. She attended and watched the games and kept the wins and losses on her game calendar. Also, in her spare time she kept a flower garden and loved feeding and watching birds.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Jim Smith of the home; and daughter Celeste Smith of Southern Pines.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Scotland Regional Hospice and Carolina Hearts Home Care staff and her wonderful caregivers, Estella Lawson, Shaniyah Holmes, and Megan Locklear.
