Rebecca Lee (Edwards) Nelson

Rebecca “Becky” Lee Edwards Nelson, 71, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2022 at home surrounded by her family.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2022 at Lawndale Baptist Church in Greensboro, officiated by Pastor Jon Boling.  Entombment will be private.  The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks are recommended and please practice social distancing.

She was born on July 19, 1950 in Guilford County to the late Robert Earl and Mae Elizabeth Reese Edwards.   Becky was the first Summerfield paid town employee, serving as the town clerk. She also was instrumental in helping organize the first Founders Day Celebration for the town of Summerfield.  She was devoted to her husband and family, and cherished her role as wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  Becky was an avid sewer and quilter and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed cooking, reading and going to the beach.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Danny Bryant Nelson, Sr. of the home; children, Danny “Bryant” Nelson, Jr. of Greensboro, Karissa Nelson Nadeau, and her husband, Tim, of Summerfield, and Robert David Nelson of Greensboro; grandchildren, Chelsey Needham, Alyssa Nelson, Abigail Nelson, Noah Nadeau and Brylee Nelson; great grandchildren, Rylan, Sophie, Eli and Nolan; sister, Kathy Bowman of Greensboro; and brother, Bobby Edwards of Oregon.  She is preceded in death by her sisters, Connie Wright and Carol Harris.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103.
