Randy was born on January 7, 1952, in Troy, North Carolina, to Frank and Janie Smith, who preceded him in death. He was a lifelong member of the Troy community, was a member of Long Hill Baptist Church, and attended Tabernacle Baptist Church, where his faith and fellowship were important parts of his life.
For many years, Randy dedicated his life to serving others through a variety of meaningful roles. He worked as a truck driver, served in law enforcement, and spent 18 years as an EMT-10 of those years as a supervisor, while also being an active member of the rescue squad. Each of these careers reflected his strong work ethic, deep sense of public service, and unwavering dedication to his community. He later retired from Uwharrie Environmental after 20 years, closing a chapter defined by hard work, perseverance, and pride in a job well done.
Randy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 52 years, Pamela Johnson Smith, who stood faithfully by his side through every season of life. He was a proud and loving father to his daughter, Christy Smith Kelly, and son-in-law Levi Kelly, and an adoring grandfather to his two grandsons, Eli and Jake, who brought him endless joy.
He is also survived by his siblings: Johnny Smith (Loretta) of Biscoe, Dianne Thompson of Troy, Jimmy Smith (Vickie) of Troy, his twin sister Sandy Dawkins (Scott) of Biscoe, and Darlene Burner (Mike) of Concord, along with a large and loving family of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews who loved him dearly. Randy also leaves behind his two cherished fur babies, Lilly and Daisy, who were a constant source of comfort and companionship. Randy was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Larry Smith and his sister-in-law Judy Smith. We find peace in knowing that a glorious reunion was surely had.
Those who knew Randy will remember his beautiful blue eyes, perfect blonde hair, and most of all his generous heart. He loved his family fiercely and would do anything for anyone. He also had a deep love for Duke Blue Devils basketball and never missed the chance to cheer them on, as well as a lifelong appreciation for the music of The Beach Boys, which perfectly reflected his easygoing spirit and love for simple joys. His kindness, loyalty, and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
