Rachel Freeman

Rachel Gibson Freeman, 67 of Laurinburg, died on March 17, 2011 at the home of her daughter in Whispering Pines. Mrs. Freeman was born in Laurinburg on September 28, 1943. She was the daughter of the late James Alton Gibson and Dorothy Evans Gibson of Laurel Hill.
A memorial service will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel officiated by the Rev. Dr. Thomas Marshall and the Rev. Harry Clark.
She is survived by her husband Mr. Earl Wayne Freeman, Sr.; her daughter Ms. Allison Freeman Raber and one grandchild Brandon Alexander Raber of Whispering Pines; her son Dr. Earl Wayne Freeman, Jr. and wife, Mrs. Kaly Davis Freeman; three grandchildren William Davis Freeman, Bennett Davis Freeman, and Sophia Tianyu Freeman of Laurinburg; her sisters Ms. Linda Cribb of Bakersville NC and Ms. Lisa Allen-Green of Fayetteville; her brothers Mr. James Gibson of Laurinburg and Mr. Robert Gibson of Laurinburg.
Mrs. Freeman graduated from Laurinburg High School and attended Appalachian State University and St. Andrews Presbyterian College. She was employed by Southern Bell Telephone Company and retired to be a homemaker and mother. She will be remembered as a lover of her pets, the outdoors and a bargain at Big Lots. Above all, she had a wonderful giving spirit and was well-known as a volunteer at Stewartsville Baptist Church and generous grandmother.
Memorials are requested for the Scotland County Humane Society, 1401 West Blvd., Laurinburg, NC 28352.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
