Rachel (High) Britt

Rachel High Britt, a cherished mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away on January 14, 2024, at Scotland Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 6:00 PM at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service and Crematorium Chapel, officiated by Pastor Kevin Norton.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-6:00 PM prior to the service.

Born on March 16, 1936, in Marlboro County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Herman Fuller High and Clevie Williams High.

Rachel, a graduate of Gibson High School and a member of Charity Outreach Church of God.  She began her career as a nurse at Scotland Memorial Hospital, where she was loved by all her patients for her warmth and compassion.

After a few years at the hospital, Rachel's innovated spirit and passion for food led her to venture into the restaurant industry. She fondly began cooking for someone in a restaurant and soon realized that she could turn her culinary skills into a business. With determination and a dream to be her own boss, Rachel opened Rachel's Grill. Her establishment quickly became a beloved spot in the community, known for delicious food and a welcoming atmosphere. Patrons from near and far would often return, drawn by Rachel's reputation for excellence and her genuine kindness.

Rachel will be remembered as a pillar of the community, a woman whose loving and friendly nature made her a friend to many. She had the rare ability to make everyone feel at home, whether it was through a warm meal at her grill or a comforting conversation. She is survived by her sons, Ronald Eugene Britt and his wife, Janice, of Wagram, William H. Britt, III and his wife, Wanda, of Rocky Mount, NC, and Timothy Wayne Britt, Sr., of Laurinburg; her sister, Betty Jean Garcia of Red Bluff, CA; six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 45 years, William Henry Britt, Jr.; her son, Donald Ray Britt; and her siblings, Bobby Lewis High, Frances Allen, and Nelson High.
