Phoebe Byrnes Richardson

Phoebe Byrnes "Penny" Richardson, 93 of Laurinburg passed away peacefully on January 21, 2014.
Penny was born in Worcester, Massachussetts on August 4, 1920. She graduated from nursing school at Temple University in Philadelphia where she met her husband, Dr. James Justus Richardson. Dr. and Mrs. Richardson moved to Laurinburg in the early 1940's. The Richardson's were very involved in the community and Mrs. Richardson served on many committees over the years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, serving on numerous committees there as well as singing in the church choir.
"Penny" is survived by her grandchildren, Jay Todd, Suzanne Burton, Andrea and Lee Richardson and Phoebe Bye, her daughter-in-law, Sylvia Richardson and her sister, Carolyn Salem. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James Justus Richardson, her sons, Jim and David Richardson , her daughter, Phoebe Fitzner and her grandson Chase Fitzner.
"Penny's" infectious laugh, love of life and positivity will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the James Richardson Scholarship Fund.
