Philip Dale Jones

Philip Dale Jones, 83, of Laurinburg, N.C., passed away on March 7, 2014. He was born in Windfall, Indiana on May 25, 1930. He graduated from Eaton Ohio High School and would later marry Patricia Kneese-Jones on May 12, 1956.

He served four years in the 82nd Airborne. He attended the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Toledo. His major was in ancient history. Jones started working for Libby Owens Ford in 1953 in Toledo, Ohio and transferred to the Laurinburg plant in 1980 to begin a customer service department. He retired with the company in 1992. He was active with the Toledo Jr. Chamber of Commerce. Jones had a passion for sailing on Lake Erie and loved to go motor boating on Lake Tillery. He traveled throughout Canada, Alaska, Mexico and Europe. He was an avid reader of ancient history, current political affairs and historic novels. He entered Scotland County's Cotton Festival baking and canning category where he won first place two years in a row with his wild plum jelly. He gardened over four years at the Laurinburg Presbyterian Church Community Garden. He also volunteered at Scotland Memorial Hospital and Meals on Wheels.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Edith Irene Closer-Jones, his father, Luke Jones, and his son, Technical Sergeant Victor J. Jones. He is survived by his wife of the home, Patricia (Pat) Kneese-Jones; daughter, Christina Marie Jones-Ellis and son-in-law Roger Allan Ellis of El Paso, Texas; granddaughter, Sara Marie Jones of California; great granddaughter, MaKayla Jones of California; sister, Rosemary Lee Jones-Blaylock and brother-in-law James Blaylock of Tennessee; and nephew, James F. Blaylock of Tennessee.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 15, 2014 from 10:00 – 11:00 am at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel. Services will follow at 11:00 am with burial following service in Hillside Memorial Park with Military rites.

In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials to Hospice of Scotland County, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, N.C. 28353.
