Peggy McKay Nelson, 90, passed away on Monday, October 29, 2012.
A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 10, at Montpelier Presbyterian Church officiated by the Revs. Jim Smith, Howard Whitehurst, and Homer Pfeifer.
She is survived by her son, Vince Nelson, Jr. of Southern Pines; her daughter, Vicki Nelson of Wagram; her brother, Duncan McKay of Wagram; 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Born August 20, 1922 in Scotland County, she was a daughter of the late John L. and Gertrude McGuire McKay and widow of the late Wallace V. Nelson. She served as a secretary for Burlington Industries and later Jordan, Snowdon, and McVicker Architect before operating Nelson Realty in Wagram. Peggy was also a lifetime member of Montpelier Presbyterian Church where she was Elder Emeritus and a former Deacon. She formerly served as the moderator for the Fayetteville Presbytery Women of the Church.
A very active community volunteer, she was active in the Extension Homemakers where she was the oldest member, organized the Red Hat Club in Wagram, and was a volunteer with the Richmond Temperance and Literary Society. She was also active in various garden clubs and the Scotland county Genealogical Society.
She also enjoyed playing bridge, and with her late husband – every Saturday night was for dancing.
