Pauline Proctor McLean
Pauline Proctor McLean passed away on December 27, 2011. Polly was born on May 11.1916, in Florence, South Carolina. She was the daughter of L. W. Proctor and Elizabeth Bultman Proctor. She was the widow of Hector McLean of Bennettsvillle, South Carolina. She was preceded in death not only by her husband, but also by her son, Hector McLean, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth McLean Donovan and her children, William Carpenter Donovan, Jr ( her grandson ). and E. McLean Donovan ( her granddaughter ). She is also survived by her grandson, Hector McLean III, his wife, Kristen Byers McLean, and their son, Hector McLean IV, "Mac".
Polly was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was very active her entire married life in Bennettsville. She was a past member and president of The Tuesday Study Club and past member and president of The Junior Charity League. Polly worked with the Girl Scouts for many years and was on the board of The Jennings Brown House. She was also a member of the PeeDee Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Polly became a very talented artist in mid-life and many family and friends own her art.
At almost 80 years of age, Polly moved to Laurel Crest Retirement Community in West Columbia, South Carolina. She was in Independent Living until the summer of 2005 when she moved to Assisted Living. While at Laurel Crest. Polly became dear friends with many people. She was in several bridge groups and enjoyed an active social life.
Her family and friends remember Polly's beaming smile and her warm embrace of both old and new friends. She will be missed tremendously and remembered in all the lovely traditions that she taught her family and with which we will honor her.
There will be a graveside service at 1:30 pm on Thursday, December 29, 2011, at Hillside Cemetery in Laurinburg, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1324 Marion Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29201. McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium of Laurinburg is serving the family
