Oscar M. Corbett

Oscar M. Corbett, 83, formerly of East Church Street died Saturday, September 29, at Community Home Care and Hospice in Sanford.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Laurinburg Presbyterian Church officiated by the Rev. Dr. Neal Carter and the Rev. Elizabeth Forester.
He is survived by three daughters, Betty Smith and husband, Mike of New Castle, VA, Carolyn Whitley and husband, David of Prior Lake, MN, and Mary Gunderson and husband, Ralph of Chapel Hill; a brother, Allen R. Corbett of Homosassa, FL; two sisters, Irene Burgess and husband, Al of Laurinburg, and Eva Thompson and husband, Cliff of Durham; six grandchildren, Kimberly Graham, Jenny Smith, Cristie Watson, Stacy Davis, Melanie Gunderson, and Stephen Gunderson; one great grandson, Andrew Davis. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Grace McInnis Corbett and two brothers, Wright Corbett and James Corbett.
Born July 6, 1924 in Sampson County, he was a son of the late Walter J. and Flora Allen Corbett. He served in the Philippines with the US Navy during World War II. Afterwards he and Al Burgess owned and operated Burgess-Corbett Motors for 33 years, and he later worked with Scotland Motors until his retirement at the age of 80.
Oscar was the last remaining charter member of the Laurinburg Kiwanis Club, having been a member over 50 years and was a recipient of their "Legion of Honor" award. He also served Laurinburg Presbyterian Church in numerous capacities; including as a deacon and elder.
