Opal (Brock) Burris

Opal Brock Burris, 97, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at her residence.

A graveside service, which will be livestreamed on the funeral homes Facebook page, will be 2:00 pm Thursday, November 5, 2020 at White Crest Baptist Church Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Ken McRae.  Due to Covid-19 restrictions, please practice social distancing and wear a mask or another form of face covering. Ms. Burris will lie in state at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 from 1-4 pm.

Born January 7, 1923 in Iredell County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Sally Marks Brock. She was a longtime member and the oldest member of White Crest Baptist Church. She worked in textiles as a sewer at United Mills and also as a CNA in nursing homes. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Lois Morgan (Danny) of Troy, Gary Burris (Charlotte) of Mt. Gilead, Judy Vanhoy of Troy, Sue Griffin (Ron) of Albemarle, and Janice Abraham of Flowery Branch, GA; son-in-law, David Thomas of Polkton; daughter-in-law, Ann Burris of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Alberta McSwain of Albemarle, Gracie Hatcher of Randleman, Margie Seawell and Lucille Bost both of New London; eighteen grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Bradford B. Burris; her son, Bradford Wayne Burris; and her daughters, Elaine Thomas and Janell Cranford; sons-in-law, Larry Vanhoy and Michael Abraham.
