Mildred Phillips Hazelwood, age 77 of Pink Hill, NC, formerly of the Athens area went home to be with our Lord on April 3, 2019 at the Richmond County Hospice Haven in Rockingham, NC.
Born on December 11, 1941 in Pipestem, WV, she was the daughter of the late Arlington Eugene and Hazel (Lilly) Phillips. She was a 1959 graduate of Athens High School in Athens, WV. She worked in various positions: G. C. Murphy’s, Pipestem State Park, IGA in Beulaville, NC and retired from a position at Camp Lejeune Marine Base, NC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Mason J. Hazelwood, brother Clayton E. Phillips, sister Dorothy J. Phillips Wingfield, and companion Lindbergh “Lucky” Booth.
She is survived by six children, Beverly (Gene) Brewer of Burlington, KY, Patricia Rice of Star, NC, Billie Bishop and companion Mike Farmer of Princeton, WV, Bobbie (Clarence) Roberts of Princeton, Brian “Bunky” Hazelwood and companion Beverly Fuller of Princeton, Mason J. Hazelwood, Jr. of the home; One sister, Sue (J.W.) Howell of Princeton; One brother, Jerry Lee Phillips of Pipestem, WV; Seventeen grandchildren; Forty-four great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mildred Phillips Hazelwood will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 7, 2019 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory with Pastor Roger Lusk officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 P.M. until the service hour at the funeral home. Following her service, the family will honor her request to be cremated.
The Hazelwood family was served locally by McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium and in WV by the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
