Jacob Galloway Obituary

Jacob Bruton Galloway, 28, of Troy, died June 9 while visiting Asheville with friends and family for a rugby match.

Jacob was born October 1, 1990 in Albemarle, son of Jill and Jonathan Galloway. He was employed at Shiloh Stables for three years. He liked his work and was fond of his co-workers, with whom he spent time outside of work.

Jacob loved life. On his last day, he watched his cousin, Adam Galloway, and his rugby team win a match. They went to celebrate the victory afterwards. It was important to his family that his final day with us on his earthly home was a day where he was in his element, doing what he liked to do – having fun and laughing with friends.

Jacob had many qualities parents want to see in their children. He was humble, kind, tender hearted, hardworking and could get along with anyone.

He loved to laugh and make others laugh. He could brighten up your day with his smile and quick humor.

The light of his life was his son, Mason. Although they lived several hours apart for many years, when he had the opportunity to see him, the two were almost inseparable.

Jacob loved watching sports, particularly soccer. He loved playing baseball and video games. Growing up, he enjoyed hunting with his Grandpa and spending time in his Nana’s hair salon where his mother and Papa would spend time with him as well. His favorite pastime was aggravating his younger sister. He loved his family, and he knew he was loved dearly.

He is survived by son, Mason Galloway, 8, of Clemson, S.C.; parents, Jonathan and Jill Galloway of Troy; sister, Kaylan Galloway of Morrisville; and maternal grandfather, Jerry “Papa” Thompson of Troy. He was preceded in death by Ann Thompson (“Nana”); Jane and Lindsey Galloway (“Granny Jane and Pawpaw Red”); Alex and Myrtle Yarbrough (“Grandpa and Grandma”); and stepfather, Kenneth Yarbrough.

We will celebrate Jacob’s life Friday, June 14, 2019 at Troy Wesleyan Church, 842 Ophir Ave, Troy. Visitation will begin at noon followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. The Reverend Randy Haithcock will officiate. Jacob would prefer everyone to dress casually.

In memory of Jacob, a fund for his son, Mason, has been set up at Fidelity Bank in Troy. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you contribute to this memorial fund. Donations can be sent to: Fidelity Bank, c/o Jacob Galloway Memorial Fund, 315 Albemarle Rd., Troy, NC 27371.
