Miss Nita Bryant James, 86, of 1105 West Church St. died Thursday, August 1, at Scotland Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Laurinburg Presbyterian Church officiated by the Rev. and Elizabeth Forester.
Born February 24, 1916 in Laurinburg, she was a daughter of the late Hinton and Anita Bryant James and great-great granddaughter of the late Hinton James, the first student at the University of North Carolina.
She was retired as the financial officer for the Scotland County Schools and was an active member of Laurinburg Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by a brother, Hinton James and wife, Frances of Winton Haven, FL; and a sister, Alice Mende and husband, Fred of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Laurinburg Presbyterian Church, 600 W. Church St. Laurinburg, NC 28352.
The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
