Ned Monroe Barringer

Ned Monroe Barringer, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2024, at Morrison Manor at the age of 93.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, November 10, 2024 at St. Luke United Methodist Church with military rites, officiated by Rev. Melinda Ivey. The family will receive friends, one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.

Born on December 26, 1930, in Concord, NC, he was a son of the late Sidney Barringer and Annie Ross Barringer. Ned's journey through life was marked by devotion to his family, his community, and his country. A proud US Navy veteran, Ned served with honor on the USS Juniper, embodying the values of duty and service.

Ned was a pillar of the community in Laurinburg, North Carolina for the majority his life. He purchased the Sun Drop Bottling plant, which he owned and operated for several years. Ned later expanded to invent the “Chilly Willee” slush. A favorite treat that had one of the first machines at that time to dispense a frozen beverage. After a number of years in the drink industry, Ned switched gears and opened the first Pawn Shop in Laurinburg, Ned's Pawn.  With the help of his wife, it has served Scotland and Richmond Counties for over 40 years and continues to do so as his legacy.

As man of strong faith, Ned was a charter member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. His involvement in the church was a testament to his kind nature and his desire to serve others. Ned was a family man who thought the world of his children and grand-children.

Described as loving, intelligent, and kind, Ned's influence extended beyond his immediate family. His warmth and wisdom touched the lives of many, and his legacy of kindness and integrity will live on in the countless lives he enriched.

Ned is survived by his three children, Debbie Hearn (David) of Greenville, SC, Donald Barringer (Arlene) of Laurinburg, and Susan Greene (Bryan) of Rockingham; his ten grandchildren, Matt Hearn (Erica), Curtis Hearn (Ziara), Amy Copeland (Nate), Leigh Ann White (Jason), Cassie Rivela (Steve), Ashley Jacobs (Raylon), Samantha Barringer, Heather Dorenbusch (Stephen), Andrew Greene (Amanda), and Brandon Greene (Karina); his twelve great-grandchildren, Caleb, Elijah, Dakota, Malakai, Audrey, Josiah, Brooks, RJ, Colby, Monroe, Mason, Bowen; great-great grandchild Aurora; and nephew, Hal Barringer. He is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Emma Jean Day Barringer, and his brother Harold Barringer.
