Obituary

Nancy Electra McCall Carter, 82, formerly of Troy, went home to be with the Lord Monday, July 13, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 18, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service Chapel in Troy. Burial will follow at Southside Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel.

Born December 2, 1943, in Mecklenburg County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Horace McCall, Jr. and Joyce Peace Howell McCall. Nancy graduated from Troy High School and St. Andrews College. She was employed by Wake County Schools for over 30 yrs, where she taught 4th grade at York Elementary. Although she did not have any children of her own, she loved all of her nieces and nephews as though they were hers – as well as all of her school children throughout the years.

Nancy was happily married for 39 years to William (Bill) E. Carter, Jr. She bravely battled alongside her husband as they fought his brain cancer for 11 years before he went home to be with the Lord in 2011.

Nancy loved the Lord first and her family second. She could always be counted on for a loving ear, words of wisdom and encouragement and being a strong prayer Warrior for those she loved. Nancy enjoyed board games, card games, crosswords and all kinds of music. She sang harmony in the church choir, played the piano and guitar, and loved riding in her mustang with the top down.

She is survived by her sisters, Jan McCall DuBose of Sumter SC, and Nicky McCall Casteen (Tony) of Southport NC; brother, Sam McCall III (Lynn) of Wilmington NC; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) E. Carter, Jr.; and brother-in-law, Bobby DuBose.

Bumgarner Family Funeral Service is serving the Carter family.
