Memorial services for Mrs. James Wilburn Townsend, Sr. will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Morris Morgan Room at Scotia Village.
Burial will be private.
Mrs. Townsend, the former Myrtle Harriet Spears, died on Sunday, August 28, 2005 at Scotia Village, Laurinburg where she had been a resident since 1988.
Born in Bennettsville, SC on February 15, 1904, she was a daughter of the late James Arch Spears, Jr. and Mary Carolina Byrd Spears. Her husband predeceased her in 1947.
Survivors are her son, James Wilburn Townsend, Jr. and wife, Jane of Concord; her grandson, James Douglas Townsend and wife, Shannan of Siler City, her granddaughter, Jane Lynn Townsend Britton and husband, Jeff of East Windsor, NJ; her great grandchildren, Virginia Anne Townsend and James Spence Townsend of Siler City, Ashley Margaret Britton and William Scott Britton of East Windsor, NJ. She is also survived by her sister, Mrs. Emmett Vernon Matthews of Scotia Village and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all of the staff and employees of Scotia Village for the loving care and many acts of kindness demonstrated over the last 17 years.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial to Scotia Village Endowment Fund, 2200 Elm Ave., Laurinburg, NC 28352.
