Mrs. Mildred McMillan Gentry, 86, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, January 6, 2010.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Red Springs officiated by the Revs. Diana Killian and William Gentry. Burial will follow in Philadelphus Presbyterian Church cemetery.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Hansford Gentry; a son, Peyton Gentry and wife Martha of West End; three daughters, Carol Reavis and husband Bill of Charlotte, Susan Gaston and husband Bill of Marco Island, FL; and Janis Bracey and husband, Gordon of Rowland; a brother, Bobby McMillan of Red Springs; 15 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
Born December 29, 1923 in Robeson County, she was a daughter of the late Walter Peyton and Rose Elizabeth Jones McMillan. In the fourth grade she and Hansford Gentry became sweethearts, and they have been together the 77 years since.
Mildred was a former Sunday school teacher, a choir member, member of UMW, and served on several church committees at Snead's Grove United Methodist Church and at Trinity United Methodist Church in Red Springs where they returned to live in 1990. She was also an active garden club and book club member, in the Red Hat Society, volunteered for the American Red Cross Bloodmobiles, was formerly active with the 4-H Club, and the Cotillion Dance Club.
She was a former cafeteria manager at Laurel Hill School and later assistant manager of food services for the Scotland County Schools.
She will be remembered and cherished as a very loving and kind wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium, Laurinburg.
