Mildred Barbee

Mildred Barbee, peacefully passed away on August 30, 2025, at FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care in West End at the age of 96.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service Chapel, officiated by Pastor Michael Free. Burial will follow at Candor Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:30 PM at the funeral home.

Born on September 15, 1928, in Anson County, she was a daughter of the late Albert Porter Threadgill and Ina Maude Bullard Threadgill.

Throughout her life, Mildred was a diligent worker and took pride in her role as an inspector in the textile industry. Mildred was always busy doing things around the house. She found joy in cooking, always eager to experiment with new recipes and share her culinary creations with those she loved. Above all, her greatest pleasure was the time spent surrounded by her family.

She survived by her four daughters, Shelia L. Thompson (Fred), Faye L. Privett (Tim), Kay Lowder, and Tammy Barbee; her grandson, Chris Gillis; her great-granddaughter, Mya Gillis; her brother, Albert Porter Threadgill, Jr. (Shirley); and her sister, Ruth Joyce. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jack Lowder and Ira Lee Barbee; her brothers, Maxie, Jack, Charles, Weldon, and Jimmy Threadgill; and her sister Shirley Haywood.
