Mike was born, "Mike Monchlovich" in Franklin Borough, Johnstown, PA, to Anie Kresomitch and George Monchlovich on Jan. 24, 1918. In April 2, 1943, Mike married the former Doris June Ormsby of Laurinburg.
Athletics, specifically football, was Mike's path out of the Pennsylvania coal mines to the halls of George Washington University. His education was interrupted by his service in World War II. First Lieutenant Mike was the recipient of two Silver Star Medals, a Bronze Star Medal and a Purple Heart while serving with the 405th Infantry Division, United States Army in Holland, France and Germany
Returning from service, Mike was actively recruited by several professional football teams, yet, foregoing a career as a football player, he continued with his education completing a Masters in Education from George Washington University. Ultimately, he entered a 30-year career as teacher, coach and athletic director for a number of schools in the Northern Virginia area. One of his most important roles was that of devoted husband to his beloved wife of 64 years, Doris. Mike and Doris raised their family in Springfield, VA.
Retiring from Fairfax County Public Schools (Virginia), Mike remained active as a referee and volunteer at many high school sporting events. Mike enjoyed spending time with family and friends whether golfing (ever working to perfect his game), fishing, playing cards or sharing a meal.
He was predeceased by his parents, wife, and his daughter, Ann Dalke.
Over the past several years, Mike has been an active participant and general best friend of those visiting the North Beach Senior Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike's name to the North Beach Senior Council, PO Box 85, North Beach MD 20714.
