Mickey Lynn Freeman, 82, went to be with the Lord at home surrounded by his family on August 5, 2023, in the Chip Community.  Born on January 5, 1941, in Biscoe Township, NC.

Mickey is survived by his loving wife, Frances Haywood Freeman, and their children Dodie Atkins (Jeff), of Troy, Juanita Thompson, of Troy and Tonya Rainey, of Jackson Springs. He is also remembered by his stepchildren Barbara Jean Shepherd of Pinehurst, Edwin Arnold "Jay" Shepherd (Rebecca), of Candor and Chris Michael Shepherd (Leann), of Mt. Gilead. Mickey was a proud grandfather to Jennifer Atkins, of Troy, Austin Thompson Blondin, of Knightdale, NC, Sabrina Webb, of Abilene, TX, Kelsey Atkins, of Troy and Brittany Thompson, of Troy,  and a great-grandfather to Oliver and Jackson Cowell. His step-grandchildren Carrie Bruton, of Robbins, Savannah Shepherd, Katie Shepherd, Hunter Shepherd, of Biscoe and Lillian Turner Poole of Albemarle, and Elizabeth Shepherd, of Candor also held a special place in his heart. Mickey was the brother of Helen Margaret Winters and Peter "Pat" Freeman (Arlene). He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Billy Darrell Freeman, his sister Peggy Ann Burroughs, and his son-in-law’s, Phil Thompson, and Jim Rainey.

Mickey's professional life was marked by a commitment to service. After a 20-year career as an electrician for Taylor Homes and Pee Dee Electric, he retired from the NCDOC Southern Correctional Institution in 2003. Throughout his career, Mickey used his skills to benefit others, often donating his time and resources to those in his community who could not afford an electrician. His kindness and generosity were well known and deeply appreciated by those he helped.

Mickey's faith was a cornerstone of his life. He often spoke of the transformative moment when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Saviour. His faith was not just a personal belief but a call to action. He was a long-standing member of Long Hill Baptist Church, where he was actively involved in various ministries. His love for the Lord was evident in his actions and his words, a testament to his deep and abiding faith.

Mickey was known for his love of humor, often playing the jokester among his friends and family. He had a special fondness for children, always ready with a funny story or a playful joke. His canine companion, a chihuahua named Thumbalina, was a constant source of joy and companionship for him.
