Mike was born on November 25, 1952, in Bennettsville, SC to Billy Maurice Gibson and Dorothy (Dorrie) Stanton Gibson.  Mike grew up in Pensacola, Florida, and attended public schools there.  While growing up, Mike spent many summers on the farm with his Gibson grandparents where he loved riding horses, helping out on the farm, tinkering in his grandfather’s shop, and playing with his cousins.

After high school, Mike returned to Gibson and made Scotland County his permanent home. He followed in his father’s footsteps and began his career in electric power line construction, traveling all around the South to supervise crews.  He retired from Lee Electric Company after many years of experience. Mike married Grace Monroe Gibson in 1978 and they raised four children.  Mike was passionate about his family, his work, and his hobbies.  He loved playing the guitar and getting together with friends to “strum and hum”.  He was a regular at Uncle Danny’s picking shed on Thursday nights where he enjoyed listening to Blue Grass music. Mike loved playing softball and was most proud to be a member of the Sandhills Gold team and the Laurinburgh Confederation.  Camping in Valle Crucis, the Rhodo tournament, reuniting with friends, and sharing these trips with family were highlights of his life that gave him much pleasure.  Mike adored his grandchildren and cherished his time with them.  His always had a pet dog or two and enjoyed the companionship they provided. He is survived by his sons, Michael Gibson of Gibson; Billy Gibson of the home; his daughter, Christi-Jo Gibson Britt of Laurel Hill; his brother, Robin Gibson of Gibson; and four grandchildren, Trent and Olivia Gibson and Gibson and Gracen Britt as well as close and extended Gibson and Monroe family members. Preceding Mike in death were his parents; his wife, Grace; his son, David Nicholas Gibson; and his sister, Melissa Gail Gibson.
