Michael Glenn Smith

Michael Glenn Smith, 53, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2023, at Morrison Manor.

A memorial service at 11:00 am, Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Southern Pines with the Rev. Pat Grace officiating.  Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park.

Michael was born on December 5, 1969, in Scotland County, the son of William Blue Smith and the late Louise Smith.

After graduating from Western Carolina University, he began his career with the Department of Public Safety as a Scotland County Probation Officer.  Michael also worked in Cumberland and Robeson Counties totaling 25 years with the Department of Public Safety.  He enjoyed crabbing and fishing at the beach with his children.  He was a member of Quail Unlimited and Ducks Unlimited.  Michael enjoyed making memories while hunting with his son and nephew.  Many fond memories were made on numerous Disney vacations with the family.  Before his illness, he enjoyed working in the yard and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Jennifer Rivellese Smith; son, Ian Smith of Wilmington; twin daughters, Lauren Smith and Claire Smith of the home; brothers, Robbie Smith and wife Mamie of Wilmington and Billy Smith of Laurinburg; sister-in-law, Laura Hansen of Royal Palm Beach, FL; mother-in-law, Fran Rivellese, of Royal Palm Beach, Florida and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 5, 2023 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service and Crematorium.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Scotland Regional Hospice, PO Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
