Melinda (Gillis) Lockey

It is with great sorrow the family of Melinda Gillis Lockey announces her passing on August 27, 2022 at the age of 75.

Melinda was the middle child of Daniel Malcolm and Fern Andrews Gillis of Maxton.  She was born on August 25, 1947 in Scotland County and grew up in Maxton attending the Maxton City School system.  After graduating high school, Melinda attended Carolina Commercial College in Columbia, SC and later Pembroke State University in Pembroke, NC.  Her love for numbers led to a life-long profession in accounting.  Starting out, she was employed by Speros Construction Company of Maxton and later by A. T. Harris Construction in Laurinburg.  She finished her career with Lundin and Brogdon CPA, PA in Bennettsville, SC.

Melinda was predeceased by both parents and her brother, Ellison Gillis.  She is survived by her daughter, Andrea; three grandsons, Ron, Brandon, and Tyler; one great grandson, Aiden; and one sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Ralph Douglas of Gastonia, NC.

After the passing of both her parents, Melinda took over the role of planning and hosting family gatherings.  Holidays and birthday celebrations were kept alive, everyone was welcome, and no one ever left hungry.  She will truly be missed.

A private graveside service is planned. In Melinda's memory, spend time with a good friend, enjoy a beautiful sunset at twilight, nap to the sound of falling rain, or bask in the sunlight of a warm summer's day.  The best things in life are free.
