Laurinburg
McNair Evans, born in Laurinburg, North Carolina on July 3, 1930. was the fourth child and third son of the late Anne Livingston Borden and Erasmus Hervey Evans. McNair attended public schools in Laurinburg and graduated from Woodberry Forest School in Virginia, Princeton University and the Harvard Business School. Following service in the United states Army, he returned to Laurinburg and was associated with family businesses. A member of the Laurinburg Presbyterian Church since 1942, he served as a Sunday school teacher and Chairman of the Board of Deacons. Mr. Evans was a past president of the Laurinburg-Scotland County Area Chamber of Commerce, the Scotland County United way, and the Laurinburg Rotary Club.
Surviving him are his wife, Patricia Nunnelley Evans; two daughters, Martha McRae Evans of Black Mountain and Patricia Nunnelley Evans of Raleigh; a son, McNair Evans, Jr. of Davidson; a sister, Mrs. John Jones McIver of Greensboro; two brothers, the Rev. John Borden Evans of Davidson and Murphy Evans of Raleigh. His brother, E. Hervey Evans, Jr. predeceased him.
McNair Evans was a loving husband and a devoted father. His loyalty to his family and siblings was inspiring. He was a lover of life and will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be Saturday, November 4 at 11:30 a.m. at the Laurinburg Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the residence, 822 Gilchrist Street.
