Maxton C. Kearns, Jr., 76, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2020 at his home.
A graveside service, with Coast Guard Honors will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 27, 2020 at Southside Cemetery in Troy, officiated by Tony Sedberry. Due to Covid 19, please practice social distancing and all attendees must wear a mask or face covering. Services will be livestreamed on the funeral home's Facebook page.
Born July 14, 1944 in Montgomery County, he was a son of the late Maxton C. Kearns, Sr. and Jane Dennis Kearns. After serving for the U.S. Coast Guard, he worked as a manager in the Telecommunications Industry for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed technology and computers. He had a love for Ham Radio in which he had served as past President, Secretary and Treasurer for the Richmond County Amateur Radio Club. Maxton was also a life member of the Amateur Radio Relay League (AARL).
He is survived by his daughter, Kara O’Brien and husband Justin of Las Vegas, NV; grandsons, Jackson O’Brien of Las Vegas, NV, and Kaeleb Trayner of Poplarville, MS; and his siblings, Breta Gillis of Troy, Mark Kearns of Apex, and Tab Kearns of Cary. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jane McIntyre Kearns; his son, Maxton Kearns III; his daughter, Erin Trayner; and his sister, Linda Williamson.
