Matthew Ryan Braswell

May 17, 1991 — March 29, 2010

Matthew Ryan Braswell, age 18, son of Dr. Lloyd V. and Anne Cooper Braswell of 5304 Tahoe Drive, Durham, died Monday.

Born May 17, 1991 in Raleigh, Matthew moved to Durham with his family about 12 years ago. He was a senior at Jordan High School, and had planned to attend East Carolina University this fall. Matthew had worked part-time at Cici's Pizza for the past year.

Matthew had a very outgoing personality and loved people. His family meant very much to him as did his dog "Buddy." He loved "hanging out" with his brother. Their favorite hobby was fishing with their friends. He adored his sister and was very protective over her.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his brother, Blake Braswell, and his sister, Madison Braswell, both of the home; his maternal grandparents, Bobby and Pat Cooper of Laurinburg; and his paternal grandparents, the Rev. Vernon and Janice Braswell of Goldsboro. Matthew was preceded in death by his sister, Kaitlan Braswell, who died in November of 1995.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd, the Rev. C.F. McDowell officiating. A graveside service is 3 p.m. Friday at Hillside Memorial Park, Laurinburg.

Graveside rites and burial will be held Friday at Hillside Memorial Park in Laurinburg.

Pallbearers will be Jamie O'Briant, Emmett Ward, Brian Green, Brian Deese, Geoffrey Chapman and Jonathan Herring.

This year, Matthew's focus was attending ECU. In his memory, a college scholarship fund will be set up for Blake and Madison Braswell, in care of Hope Valley Baptist Church, 6900 Garrett Road, Durham, North Carolina 27707, or in care of Chester Baptist Church, 4317 School Street, Chester, Virginia 23831.

Matthew loved the outside, and family and friends are welcome to come to the funeral in blue jeans or casual attire.

A good and an important thing to remember about Matthew is that "He Fought the Good Fight".
