Mary Shaw, 90, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Scotia Village.
A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 21st at Laurinburg Presbyterian Church officiated by the Rev. Dr. Neal Carter.
She is survived by her sons, Leon Shaw (Kim) of Raleigh and Dan Shaw (Cyndi) of Charlotte; her sister, Mildred Whittington of Hickory; and six grandchildren, Della Shaw, George Shaw, Helen Shaw, Allison Shaw, Michael Shaw, and Christopher Shaw. She is preceded in death by her husband, George Whitfield Shaw.
Born June 13, 1923 in New Hanover County, she was a daughter of the late Leon and Emma Suggs Hughes. She attended Flora McDonald College and earned a teaching degree. She was very active in the Laurinburg Presbyterian Church, loved to write poetry and was always devoted to her church, family and community.
A visitation will be 4-6pm at Scotia Village in the Morrison Morgan Center on Monday, January 20th and following the memorial service in the church fellowship hall.
