Mary Ellen Bailey Gooch

Mary Ellen Bailey Gooch, 83, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2022 at Sandy Ridge Memory Care in Candor.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service Chapel, officiated by Rev. Glenn Hancock. Burial will follow at Ophir United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel.

Born February 19, 1939, in Montgomery County, she was a daughter of the late Ulas Paul Bailey, Sr. and Mary Hicks Bailey. She was a 1961 graduate of the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing. Mary Ellen loved being a nurse, was very dedicated to her job, and loved helping people. She especially loved family gatherings and cooking for all of them, and going to the beach. At Mary Ellen’s request, she asked that you may wear what you wish, but please don’t wear anything black.

She is survived by her daughter, Robyn Gooch Stone (Scott) of Pinehurst; son, Marcus L.B. Gooch (Bethany) of Charlotte; brother, Sonny Bailey (Norma) of Troy; sisters-in-law, Janie Gooch Morgan, Bobbie Jean Gooch, Linda Gooch Karriker, and Kaye Gooch Norris (Robert); brother-in-law, Richard Gooch (Sandra); grandchildren, Bailey Stone, Mary Coe Reynolds (Matthew), Sam Gooch, and Ava Jane Gooch; and great-grandchild, Connor Reynolds. She is preceded in death by her husband, Brownie L. Gooch and sister, Shirley Bailey Smith.
