Marvin Ralph Goforth, 81, of Troy passed away Thursday, January 9, 2025 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
A funeral service, with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard, will be held Sunday, January 12, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Parsons Grove Church in Candor, officiated by Pastor Vanessa McIntyre. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Born October 3, 1943, in Montgomery County, he was a son of the late Ralph and Pauline Greene Goforth. Marvin's life was characterized by his unwavering devotion to his family, his love for the simple pleasures in life, and his enduring sense of humor. A man of faith, Marvin was a dedicated member of Parsons Grove Church, where he found strength and community.
Marvin's interests and hobbies painted the picture of a man who cherished the simple joys of life. He enjoyed fishing and found solace and pleasure in the quiet moments by the water, patiently waiting for the next catch. Family get-togethers were the highlight of his life, as he reveled in the company of his loved ones, always ready to share a good joke and a hearty laugh. His love for farming reflected his deep connection to the land and the cycles of nature, a passion he pursued with diligence and joy. A friendly face at local restaurants, Marvin enjoyed going out to eat, indulging in the flavors of life and the company of friends and family. His career as a truck driver for various companies spanned many years, during which he was known for his reliability and good nature. Marvin's service in the US Army during the Vietnam War exemplified his courage and patriotism, values that remained central throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Arlaine Haywood Goforth of the home; son, Chris Goforth (Kristen) of Troy; brother, Charlie Goforth (Carol) of Troy; sister, Phyllis Bowers of Candor; and granddaughters, Emma Goforth and Elaina Goforth. He is preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Shelton.
