Martha Hayes Peele McDaniel, daughter of the late Thomas Charles Peele and Addie Clark Peele Morton, passed away peacefully Friday, February 24, 2023 at Morrison Manor surrounded by her family after a short, but courageous battle with cancer. She was 87 years old. Martha was born January 5, 1936 in Laurinburg, NC. Known as “Hayes” by her family, she will be remembered for her kind and caring demeanor, always providing a motherly and nurturing presence to anyone she came in contact with. Martha loved her family unconditionally and tirelessly. She enjoyed shopping for and traveling with her grandchildren. Her cooking was like no other, she enjoyed hosting holidays and birthdays, and always loved sharing food with family and friends. Martha retired from Abbott Laboratories. In her last days, she leaned on her faith and family; she was a member of the Wagram Church of God for many years. Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Vernon McDaniel; and granddaughter, Ashley McDaniel; stepfather, Dennis H. Morton; nephew Kevin Gibson; brother, John Peele; and sisters, Marjorie Medlock and Bonnie Jean Nemerov. Martha is survived by her sons, Ray McDaniel and Dale (Vicky) McDaniel of Laurinburg, NC and Tommy (Luann) McDaniel of Wagram, NC; grandsons, Jonathan McDaniel of Raleigh, NC and Dr. Garrett (Kristy) McDaniel of McColl, SC; and great grand-daughters Brianna and Avery McDaniel. Martha is also survived by sisters, Doris Morton of Laurinburg and Ruby Carnahan of San Antonio, TX; brothers, Joe Peele of Hamlet, and Harold Peele (Patsy) of Laurinburg; and a large host of extended family and friends. A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at Wagram Church of God, officiated by Rev. Harry Clark and Rev. Ricky Brewer. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service and Crematorium and other times at the residence of her son, Ray McDaniel, beginning at 5:00 pm Sunday, February 26, 2023 at 12321 Olde Farm Circle, Laurinburg. Services will be live streamed on our Facebook page.
