Mrs. Elizabeth Braswell Rainey, 94 of Scotia Village, Laurinburg and formerly of Rockingham died Friday, January 8, 2010.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church, Rockingham officiated by the Rev. Mike Sykes. Burial will be prior to the memorial service at Eastside Cemetery.
Survivors include a step-daughter, Margaret Rainey Morris (Ed) of Eatonton, GA; niece, Carolyn Rainey Bridgman of Rockingham, a nephew, Frank Phillips of Greensboro; two grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She was born January 25, 1915 in Richmond County, the daughter of the late J. S. and Martha Viola Love Braswell. A graduate of East Carolina University and the University of North Carolina, Mrs. Rainey taught for many years in the Richmond County school system. Her last tenure was as librarian at the Monroe Avenue School in Hamlet.
She was also a dedicated of the First United Methodist Church in Rockingham and served for many years as a Sunday school teacher and pianist of the Women's Bible Class.
