Marshall Alexander Thompson, Jr. age 89, passed away on July 26, 2021.

He was born in Maxton, NC on February 15, 1932 to the late Mary Nivison Thompson and Marshall Alexander Thompson, Sr.  He served with the army in the Korean War.  He graduated from University of Maryland in 1959, and taught high school biology and chemistry in Maryland until retiring in 1983.  After retiring, he and his wife, Charlotte moved to the Thompson family farm in Robeson County.  Here he continued to raise and train horses, as he had done his entire adult life.  In addition to his love of horses, he enjoyed canoeing, especially the Lumber River.  He served on the Park Planning Committee, and was an active member of the Lumber River Canoe Club.

In his later years, he made mountain dulcimers, and enjoyed participating in local festivals.  He loved to sing, especially “olde timey” folk songs.  He loved life and his family.

He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher S. Thompson, and by his sister, Mary Lewis Miller.  He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 61 years, Charlotte Chambers Thompson; two children, Lori Thompson Walker and Jonathan Brian Thompson; four grandchildren, Lauren Trondsen, Lindsay Harroff, Braiden Walker, and Carson Walker; a sister, Anne Morrison; a brother, Robert L. Thompson; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as many friends.
