Mr. Marshall Franklin Smith, 86, died Sunday, December 2, at his residence.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Caledonia United Methodist Church Cemetery officiated by the Rev. Kelly Barr.
He is survived by his wife Mary Webb Smith; four sons, Marshall F. Smith, Jr., Ira Lee Smith, Bennie G. Smith, David A. Smith; four daughters, Brenda J. Gibert, Rebecca Dale Stellone, Sharon Lynn Mintz, Robin Adema; two brothers, Marcus Smith and Bennie Smith; seventeen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Paulette Marie Mittleman.
Born September 21, 1926 in Red Springs, he was a son of the late Martin and Della Wright Smith. After his graduation from high school, Marshall entered the military where he served in WWII, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Marshall retired from the military in 1973 and became an EMT with the Scotland County EMS. He and his wife, Mary, traveled extensively and especially loved going to the Outer Banks where Marshall could fulfill his love of fishing.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Scotland County, PO Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
Visitation will be 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
