Marshall Ray Patterson

August 1, 1941 — March 25, 2018

Marshall Ray Patterson, 76 of Laurel Hill, passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at his home.

A funeral service will be 3:00 pm Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Smithtown Church of God, Maxton, NC officiated by the Rev. Tim Macon, the Rev David Kee and the Rev. Don Scott. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Born August 1, 1941, he was a son of the late Oscar W. and Vivian Burgen Patterson in Rutherford County, NC.  Mr. Patterson served in the U.S. Marines. He was owner and operator of Scotland Sheet Metal.  He loved playing his guitar, his work and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Aretha Jones Patterson of the home; two sons, Marston Wayne Patterson and Chad Gabriel Patterson of Laurel Hill; special daughter in-law, Cynthia Reynolds Patterson of Laurel Hill; brothers, John Patterson of Gastonia, NC and Odell Patterson of Kings Mountain, NC;  sisters, Marie Griggs of Crowders Mountain, NC, Ella Faye Cook of Sharon, SC, and Willa Faye Dixon of Augusta, GA; three grandchildren, Chelsea Patterson of the home, Brandon Patterson and Stephanie Patterson of Laurel Hill; eight great grandchildren of which includes special great grandchild, Serenity; and a host of nieces and nephews.  Mr. Patterson is preceded in death by his oldest son, Lonnie Ray Patterson, one great grandson and several brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm Tuesday evening, March 27, 2018 at McDougald Funeral Home.
